Affirmative

Subject + was/were + VI (ing) + object

Example:

  1. Ram was going to school.
  2. They were playing football.
  3. They were writing a letter.
  4. I was drinking milk

Negative

Subject + was/were + not + VI (ing) + object

Example:

  1. Ram was not going to school.
  2. They were not  playing football.
  3. They were not writing a letter.
  4. I was not drinking milk

Interrogative

Was/Were + subject + VI (ing) + object?

Example:

  1. Was Ram going to school?
  2. Were they playing football?
  3. Were they writing a letter?
  4. Was I drinking milk?

Negative Interrogative

Was/Were + subject + not + VI (ing) + object?

Example:

  1. Was Ram not going to school?
  2. Were they not playing football?
  3. Were they not writing a letter?
  4. Was I not drinking milk?

Interrogative with “Wh-word”

Wh-word + was/were + subject + VI (ing) + object?

Example:

  1. Where was ram going?
  2. What were they playing?
  3. What was he writing?
  4. What was I drinking?

Note: If  these is a wh-word in Hindi sentence, we translate it first & then helping verb is used.
